Harley-Davidson: History
![Picture](/uploads/1/0/5/6/10560924/9500071.jpeg?269)
Harley-Davidson took its humble roots in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1901 when two local kids, William Harley and Arthur Davidson designed and built their first motorbike engine. They fitted their compact engine onto a bicycle frame, and found little success with the design. From here, the two boys began to think bigger, designing a full bike frame designed to house their engine. This design functioned significantly better and the first "Harley" as we know it was born. The two began selling their engines commercially in 1903 and Harley-Davidson Corporation was born. After receiving praise for their motorcycle design, the two constructed the first Harley-Davidson factory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is the corporate headquarters of the company to this day. From here, the company continued to grow, producing exponential increases in motorcycle output every year. On top of the increase in production, Harley-Davidson also began to increase their product line, beginning the trend of multiple engine cylinder models in 1910. Due to their success at home, the United States government commissioned Harley-Davidson to construct motorcycles for use in both World Wars. In 1929, Harley-Davidson took their first stab at penetrating the world market, commissioning a Japanese motorbike producer to build Harley-Davidson motorcycles under the Harley name. The company now operates in a number of countries, including In recent years, the company had begun to slide. Profits were down, and the company had developed some poor corporate practices that hindered potential solutions. Just this past year however, the company has begun an internal restructuring that they hope will solve their interpersonal issues.

Harley-Davidson: Dealing With Change
The Harley-Davidson company has been around for over 100 years. In this time, the company has undergone some serious changes, including the transfer of ownership, restructuring, and redevelopment in order to account for a change in product development. The company is still successful, which hints at the fact that the company deals with these changes effectively and efficiently. In my comparison, I address how Harley-Davidson deals with change, specifically how they are dealing with their recent plan to restructure. I will compare these methods with those used by non-profit organizations, specifically one that I researched, Operation: Dream. Take a look at the comparison here!
